In letting Jeremiah Masoli and LaMichael James remain students in good standing at the University, the president and dean of students have demonstrated a casual disregard for the safety of students and the integrity of the University, and shows that the big dollars of NCAA football have trumped common sense.
Masoli and James are now convicted criminals who are allowed to attend classes and mingle with students.
Perhaps they do not pose a threat because of their supposed character from football ...

Bob Mattos was the only football coach in Sacramento State history to compile a winning record (84-73-2).
Bob Mattos, the spirited, optimistic football coach who re-energized Sacramento State's program and guided the Hornets to their last postseason appearance, died Sunday morning at his home in Rancho Murieta after a battle with brain cancer.
He was 68.

He'll take the field and run the Virginia football players through their first practice of the spring this afternoon.
The 3:50 p.m. practice, which will take place at the practice fields in the school's athletic complex -- near the McCue Center -- is open to the public.

It was just a little after 10 a.m.
Monday, the temperature in the 40s and the field soaked from rains that had left standing water across Arizona, when Jared Mitchell stepped in to face Dodgers lefty Scott Elbert in a game no one paid to see.
Elbert started Mitchell off with an inside fastball and the left-handed-hitting Mitchell jerked it down the first-base line.

Ashton Eaton's teammates tried to keep quiet as he approached a world record in the heptathlon -- as if the Oregon senior was somehow unaware of how close he was to Dan O'Brien's mark.
"I think everybody thought I didn't know. At least my teammates were trying to be like, 'Shhh, don't tell,'" Eaton said.
"I was like, 'Come on, you know something like that.'"

Alabama outplayed and outspent Texas at college football's national championship game in January.
The Crimson Tide spent nearly $2 million more than the Longhorns in Pasadena, Calif., according to their NCAA bowl expense reports obtained by The Birmingham News through open-record requests.
The Crimson Tide reported spending $4,296,631 on an eight-day trip that produced its first national title since 1992.

A. Michigan released a Notice of Allegations last month detailing five infractions the NCAA says it committed.
The university has until May 24 to file its official response, and is scheduled to appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions Aug. 13-14 in Seattle.
